We are currently hiring for a Managing Director, Social Impact Fund. Location of the selected candidate is flexible provided the location allows for effective and cost-efficient travel.
The American Heart Association’s Social Impact Funds (including the Bernard J. Tyson Social Impact Fund and a set of related Funds – collectively “SIF”) comprise a social impact venture fund that has a mission to improve the health and well-being of individuals by addressing key social determinants of health. The SIF invests in a variety of organizations dedicated to improving and addressing health equity, health access, economic resilience, food insecurity and other social challenges that can stand in the way of good health. The SIFs invest in for-profit companies through equity and debt instruments, and also support a variety of non-profit entities through grants and loans. The primary goal of the SIF is to make a meaningful impact on the lives and health of underserved populations throughout the United States by supporting equitable, sustainable entrepreneurial innovations.

The Managing Director serves as the leader of the SIF program and team, reporting to the Managing Partner of American Heart Association Ventures.
The right candidate will possess venture capital and/or impact investing experience, an entrepreneurial background, and a serious commitment to delivering positive social impact. The Managing Director will be instrumental in the long-term success of the funds including driving strategy, portfolio company selection, leading the investment process, monitoring portfolio performance, advising portfolio companies and leading the SIF investment and support team.
The ideal leader will ensure the alignment of the Funds with the Association’s vision, mission, and values and will be responsible for collaborating with an interdisciplinary team of Executives, Social Impact Fund Governance Committee Members, American Heart Association Board leaders, national and local volunteers, and senior staff leadership to ensure the growth, implementation and measurement of the Funds. The Managing Director will also be instrumental in representing the Funds in support of fundraising activities led by the Association’s exceptional fundraising team.
This role requires an action-oriented individual with superior analytic and communications skills, both written and verbal. A key part of the job includes engaging with internal and external stakeholders nimbly, thoughtfully and with the utmost integrity.
Essential Job Duties:
Salary minimum to the midpoint of the range is $149,100.00 to $212,200.00. Pay is commensurate with experience; geographic differentials to the pay range may apply.
