We are looking to fill the role of Community Impact Director based in Orlando, FL to serve the Central Florida area. The director will serve as a health lead in the community by developing and executing community health improvement plans, building strong internal and external relationships, and supporting clinical and community-based organizations with impactful resources and interventions.

Responsibilities

Some of your responsibilities will include (but not limited to):

  • Collaborate with a broad range of partners to lead the process of building and executing community health improvement plans to achieve population-level change. This will include assessing the community health needs in the local market and developing, coordinating and implementing community wide strategies that focus on eliminating disparities through proven-effective sustainable health interventions. The Association’s current community health priorities are nutrition security, chronic disease management, maternal health, and cardiac emergency response.
  • Ensure improvement in the quality and delivery of health care in local systems by recruiting clinical partners to participate in the Association’s ambulatory QI programs, including Target: BP, Check. Change. Control. Cholesterol, and Target: Type 2 Diabetes.
  • Collaborate with development staff to identify, cultivate, and secure program funding, including sponsorships and grant awards for relevant programs, campaigns, and health impact opportunities.
  • Build a network of advocates and volunteers, and identify appropriate external partners to drive meaningful engagement to advance American Heart Association priorities and drive toward equitable health and wellbeing in the community.
  • Work cross-functionally within the organization to identify opportunities for collaboration and synergies to most effectively execute American Heart Association priority initiatives.

This position is a hybrid role, working in a formal office setting 2 – 3 days per week and from employee’s home office for the remaining days.

In this role, you will report to the Vice President of Community Impact. Semi-regular travel within the market is required.

 

Qualifications

    • Bachelor's degree in public health, health administration, or health education, or equivalent work experience in health-related field or community programs.
    • 3 - 5 years of demonstrated ability working in community/public health; working on community/public health issues through a racial equity lens; planning, implementing and/or evaluating program health interventions; leading or supporting policy, system or environmental changes.
    • Required experience working with multicultural communities. Demonstrated community relationships and experience with community engagement, mobilization or organizing with a diverse group of community members across race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender identity, religion, disability, immigration and/or socio-economic status.
    • Demonstrated critical thinking skills in assessing the local market environment and available resources to successfully implement new and existing programs.
    • Demonstrated ability to efficiently participate in a multi-disciplinary team environment working towards common goals with internal and external stakeholders. Ability to work with stakeholders across multiple sectors (education, faith, business, healthcare, government). Ability to influence team members without supervisory authority.
    • Excellent listening skills, including verbal and non-verbal communication, active listening, negotiating, problem-solving and decision-making.
    • Self-motivated, collaborative, flexible, effective organizational skills multi-tasking, communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
    • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple large projects ensuring deadlines are met, quickly pull together information and stakeholders to move a project forward, use health data and public health best practices to select interventions.
    • Must have at least intermediate knowledge and skill with Microsoft Office 2010 or higher used for word processing, email, presentations, and spreadsheets. Advanced knowledge and skill with these programs are preferred. These skills are subject to testing.
    • Ability and willingness to occasionally travel outside the market and to work evenings and weekends as needed.
    • Preferred skills: fluent in Spanish and English (written and spoken).
    • Ability to do daily local travel up to 75%; requires access to reliable transportation at all times on an immediate basis.
