The American Heart Association’s Internship Program provides college students an opportunity for hands-on experience in various facets for individuals interested in gaining work experience with a non-profit, voluntary health organization.
We have an exciting opportunity for an intern to work closely with the Community Impact Team to assist in the implementation of a sustainable culture of health within the diverse & vulnerable communities in Greater New Orleans, LA area. Individuals will obtain practical experience and receive hands-on training in various disciplines, particularly regarding our organizational priority Nation of Lifesavers. Nation of Lifesavers is a multi-year initiative that aims to improve the survival rate for the more than 350,000 out-of-hospital cardiac arrests each year. The goal of the initiative is to turn bystanders into lifesavers, so that in the time of cardiac emergency anyone, anywhere is prepared and empowered to become a vital link in the chain of survival and provide CPR.
The intern will enhance their existing skill set by learning strategies to improve health outcomes in diverse communities by supporting nutrition security work, health education strategies, and creating culturally competent resources that can be utilized by communities to prevent or manage cardiovascular disease, hypertension, and stroke.
