The American Heart Association has a professional fundraising opportunity for a National Executive Advisor, Institutional Relations within the Mission Advancement Department.

 

This position can be home-based.

 

Responsibilities

The National Executive Advisor, Institutional Relations, is responsible for advancing the Association’s mission by establishing and cultivating relationships with current and potential funders that have a giving capacity of $10M+ to increase giving, achieve mutual goals, and build long-term, transformative relationships. The position is responsible for developing and managing a portfolio of foundation donors, including managing relationships and funding opportunities with some of the Association’s top funders.  The position is also responsible for identifying, planning, preparing, and presenting grant proposals and accompanying materials (including budgets and timelines), as well as completing appropriate follow-through and stewardship for multiple grants/gifts. Additionally, the executive advisor collaborates with other fundraising teams across the Association on large, complex gift and relationship opportunities as needed.

 

  • Expertly identifies and develops funder relationships, including executing tailored cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship plans to drive mission and revenue priorities. Continually adds to the pipeline to ensure adequate support and achievement of the goals.
  • Develops depth of mission knowledge and insight needed to effectively communicate with potential and existing funders and collaborate across Mission Advancement as well as with implementation leaders.
  • Provides leadership and management for all assigned prospects in the portfolio, leveraging other staff and volunteers as appropriate to reach the fullest potential of the relationship.
  • In tight collaboration and coordination with implementation leaders, manages the proposal development and submission process, including preparing proposals, reports, and other well-written, compelling, and consistent documents that meet the priority funding needs while aligning with donor goals.  Presents agreed-upon number of proposals to achieve established performance goals.
  • Conducts internal and external research on prospective donors and builds an understanding of the goals of funders as they correspond to the Association’s mission.  Identifies and matches potential funders across the country and globally for priority project funding.
  • Records donor plans and activity in a customer relationship management tool and provides regular progress reporting as requested. Participates in Mission Advancement Department team projects and initiatives as requested.

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree from a four-year college or university, or equivalent work experience.
  • Demonstrated track record of developing, soliciting, and closing seven (7)+ figure gifts or grants.
  • At least eight (8) years of experience .
  • Driving revenue and building relationships with high-capacity funders to include leading research, cultivation, and expert proposal writing.
  • Collaborating with internal partners and volunteers.
  • Excellent communication, organization, and relationship-building skills.
  • Strong critical thinking, judgment, and strategic decision-making.
  • Developing budgets and outcomes/deliverables.
  • Leading cross-functional groups, facilitating strategy and action with a focus on collaborative solutions.
  • Experience and knowledge of research initiatives.

Preferred Experience:

  • MPH or other advanced degree preferred.
  • Experience working with complex food/nutrition initiatives and/or international funders preferred.

 

 

 

Compensation & Benefits

The salary minimum to the midpoint of the range is $106,700.00 to $150,000.00. Pay is commensurate with experience; geographic differentials to the pay range may apply. This position is incentive eligible based up to 25% on achieving certain targets. The American Heart Association reserves the right to pay more or less than the posted range.
