We have an exciting opportunity for an intern on our Development Team. As an intern supporting our Heart Ball, Hard Hats with Heart and Leaders of Impact, you will play a key role in driving the success of these impactful campaigns. Your responsibilities will include a variety of tasks that contribute to the planning, execution, and follow-up of these life-saving initiatives.  

 

The American Heart Association’s Internship Program provides college students an opportunity for hands-on experience in various facets for individuals interested in gaining work experience with a non-profit, voluntary health organization.

Internship Overview:

  • Time Commitment: 
  • Internship Duration: 9/8-12/5
  • Location:Hybrid - Intern must be based in Orlando, FL, or the immediate surrounding area.
  • Salary: $23.00 per hour

Responsibilities

Fundraising & Donor Engagement

  • Support peer-to-peer fundraising efforts by helping volunteers set and reach fundraising goals
  • Assist with donor recognition efforts and stewardship activities, including thank-you mailings and special touches
  • Help the Development Director coordinate donor communications strategies (e.g., lapsed donors, recurring donors)
  • Assist with the solicitation and organization of in-kind donations for events (e.g., auction items, event materials)
  • Track and analyze fundraising efforts to inform and improve future development strategy
  • Conduct research on potential donors and grant opportunities, including assisting with proposals, reports, and deadline tracking

Sponsor & Stakeholder Support

  • Help prepare sponsor presentations and assemble materials for follow-up communications
  • Support relationship management with key stakeholders and sponsors through thoughtful outreach and logistics support
  • Gain experience in public speaking by supporting presentations to sponsors, volunteers, and community groups

Event Planning & Community Engagement

  • Assist in planning, coordinating, and executing logistics for fundraising and cultivation events.
  • Provide day-of and follow-up support for community events including health fairs and Hands-Only CPR demonstrations
  • Conduct pre-event outreach and follow-up calls to event attendees, top fundraisers, survivors, and volunteers to drive participation and engagement
  • Assist with variety of auction event preparation and logistics. 

Administrative & Reporting Support

  • Assist with administrative tasks including preparing printed materials, organizing event supplies, and assembling thank-you cards
  • Support data entry, report pulling, and organization of event-related data to track progress and outcomes
  • Offer ideas and feedback to the Development Director for donor engagement and fundraising innovation



Qualifications

  • Senior or graduate student pursuing a degree in business, communications, public relations, nonprofit management, fundraising, or event planning.
  • Experience or strong interest in fundraising, promotions, sales, or event coordination.
  • Demonstrated excellence in written communication and comfort with both one-on-one and group interactions.
  • Strong oral and presentation communication skills; comfortable engaging with community leaders, volunteers, and sponsors.
  • Organized, proactive, and able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Intermediate to advanced proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
  • Basic working knowledge of Canva preferred.
  • Comfortable with or interested in developing public speaking skills through donor and community engagement.
  • Required Equipment: Reliable WiFi Connection and reliable transportation.
  • Minimum availability of 20 hrs/wk, M-F between the hours of 8:30am-5pm.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorship, now or in the future.  For any roles working remotely, the work must also be performed inside the United States, not in a foreign country.
