The American Heart Association has an opportunity for a Sr. Manager, Corporate Accounting. This role is hybrid with 2 - 3 days in our National Center office in Dallas, TX. 

 

The Sr. Manager, Corporate Accounting, oversees accounting activities to ensure accounting records are complete, accurate, and compliant with accepted accounting policies and principles. May assist with general accounting activities, including the preparation, maintenance, and reconciliation of ledger accounts and financial statements such as balance sheets, profit-and-loss statements, and capital expenditure schedules. Manages professional employees and sets day-to-day operational priorities for the team.

Responsibilities

  • Leads month-end closing process for the Company, including preparation, review and/or posting of journal entries, as well as eliminations and consolidations. Oversees the preparation of income and balance sheet statements, consolidated statements, and various other accounting statements and reports.
  • Reconciles corporate general ledger accounts, assists with variance analysis and ensures timely resolution of reconciling items
  • Prepares and performs analytical review of accounting schedules, financial statements, as well as PBCs.
  • Assists with a variety of processes supporting financial reporting.
  • Maintains general ledger system, including creating queries, reviewing data and calculations, generating reports, performing uploads to the system, and troubleshooting problems with colleagues and vendors.
  • Ensures all activities are in compliance with internal controls requirements of Section 44 of the Sarbanes-Oxley Act. Provides support to external auditors, responding to all data requests in a timely manner.
  • Implements process improvements. Ensures that transaction entry verification procedures are followed as well as desktop procedures are developed and updated
  • Owns and manages Capital and Fixed Assets, Leases in accordance with ASC-842, Payroll and related journal entries, and other aspects of the general ledger.
  • Manage Cash Management activities, ensuring proper accounting, reconciliation, and reporting of related transactions.
  • Works on team development and coaches the team for skill development/career growth.
  • Works closely with internal business partners in Finance and across the company.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or related field
  • 3 years minimum of relevant experience
  • Experience with Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable processes with a strong ability to maintain accuracy and timeliness.
  • Proficient in General Ledger management, account reconciliation, and financial record keeping in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Experienced in preparing and analyzing financial statements and reports, ensuring integrity, compliance, and alignment with organizational objectives.
  • Skilled in financial accounting, financial analysis, and financial reporting, with a proven ability to interpret complex data and provide actionable insights.
  • Proficient in using Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems to streamline accounting operations and improve reporting efficiency.
  • Exhibits strong analytical thinking and attention to detail, ensuring accuracy in all aspects of financial documentation and reporting.
  • Demonstrates effective problem-solving and judgment skills in evaluating financial issues and implementing sound solutions.
  • Maintains a high level of confidentiality, honesty, and integrity when handling sensitive financial information.
  • Recognized for effective communication skills and the ability to convey financial information clearly to both financial and non-financial stakeholders.
  • Experienced in coaching, mentoring, and developing team members, fostering a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.
  • Demonstrates excellent team management and team building capabilities, creating a positive and productive work environment.
  • Strong planning and organizational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines effectively.
  • Adept at financial decision-making and supporting leadership through accurate forecasting and data-driven recommendations.
