The Healthy Living team is integral to the mission of the American Heart Association, striving to ensure that all with cardiovascular conditions or risk factors have the care, resources and support to survive and thrive. This team leads organizational strategy to improve the diagnosis, treatment, condition management, and quality of life for patients living with cardiovascular disease, stroke, or a risk factor.

 

The Healthy Living team is seeking an intern with an interest in public health including program development, implementation, and evaluation. Ideal candidates will possess strong skills in program and project management and consumer message testing/consumer insights research and/or nutrition.

 

The American Heart Association’s Internship Program provides college students an opportunity for hands-on experience in various facets for individuals interested in gaining work experience with a non-profit, voluntary health organization.

Internship Overview:

  • Time Commitment: 20-25 hours per week
  • Internship Duration: 1/26/26 – 5/1/26
  • Location: Remote position
  • Salary: $23 per hour

Responsibilities

Market and Environmental Research

  • Research existing campaigns and initiatives focused on healthy living with emphasis on nutrition to assess the competitive landscape.
  • Monitor environmental trends to inform message development and study design.
  • Participate in consumer insights study design and implementation and analysis and application of findings.

 

Program and Project Management

  • Collaborate with appropriate team lead to identify best practices and develop resources for the team such as handbooks, toolkits, and resources.
  • Support the team in development of healthy eating/nutrition resources such as web articles, handouts, infographics, etc. in coordination with marketing and communication leads.
  • Develop templates for program and project reporting and assist with quarterly reporting needs.

 

Volunteer Recruitment and Management

  • Support existing initiative advisory groups with activities such as agenda development, meeting communications, and training opportunities.
  • Support collaboration and integration by identifying best practices across teams and cataloguing relationships for better coordination.



Qualifications

  • Candidates who are seniors or graduate students pursuing a degree in nutrition science, journalism, communications, public relations, marketing or localization/translation with an interest in non-profit and health care communications.
  • Knowledge in the field of public health and health literacy.
  • Familiarity with policy, systems and environment approach to transformational change.
  • Demonstrated skills in research such as market research, environmental scans, etc.
  • Demonstrated skills in written communications, including ability to translate dense content into easy to read and understand versions and formats for various audience such as consumers or executive leadership.
  • Ability to build and cultivate relationships with internal and external partners.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate in verbal and written community.
  • Strong organizational skills and willingness to support administrative tasks as needed.
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft suite of programs.
  • Ability to function with flexibility and at times autonomy in a fast-paced environment.
  • Required Equipment: Reliable Wi-Fi connection.
  • Minimum availability of 20 hrs/wk, M-F between the hours of 9am-5pm.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorship, now or in the future. For any roles working remotely, the work must also be performed inside the United States, not in a foreign country.
