We have an excellent opportunity for a Social Media Manager, Science in our Science Operations Department!

This is a six-month temporary position with the possibility of extension. The position is home-based.

Responsibilities

Manage the social media strategy, execution, and amplification of the Office of Science Operations (OSO) and related business portfolios: organic and owned channel strategies.  Help expand influencer programs and content plans, bringing new science to life through members, ambassadors, and real-time engagement, while maintaining alignment with the Association’s broader brand voice and strategic goals. 

Primary Function: 

  • Manage social, organic, and owned strategies for OSO-related campaigns and initiatives
  • Help expand influencer program and content plan
  • Bring new science to life in real time, at meetings and events, through members and ambassadors

Key Responsibilities: 

  1. Strategy & Planning
  • Develop and manage the organic social media strategy for OSO’s membership, campaigns, and events to complement paid and performance media plans
  • Build channel-specific plans (LinkedIn, X, Instagram, YouTube, etc.) that emphasize thought leadership, scientific storytelling, and the Association Membership / Professional Network engagement
  • Explore new channel opportunities (e.g. Reddit)
  • Manage Science Influencer strategy and activation  
  1. Content Creation, Adaptation, and Distribution
  • Develop social post copy and messaging aligned with campaign goals, brand voice, and audience nuances (scientific professionals, members, international audiences, etc.)
  • Optimize content and publishing based on performance trends and platform best practices
  • Create and/or manage the creation of content and re-purposing of key science content, passionate about organic storytelling and engagement
  • Bring American Heart Association Member stories and contributions to life across social platforms to elevate their profiles while showcasing opportunities, benefits, and engagement pathways to support annual acquisition and retention strategies
  • Identify opportunities to leverage existing paid content across organic channels to maximize reach, consistency, and efficiency
  • For our events, you’ll provide on-site real-time social media posting, community management, reporting, manage day-to-day social responsibilities
  1. Performance Monitoring & Reporting
  • Develop and maintain reporting frameworks and KPIs to integrate into dashboards
  • Monitor performance and audience behavior to identify what’s driving reach and conversion
  • Provide ongoing insights and recommendations, including external landscape analysis, to optimize content performance
  • Report out metrics and learnings to cross cross-functional team 
  1. Collaboration & Integration
  • Work closely with our vendors and cross-functional teams to ensure strategies and content are complementary 
  • Participate in cross-functional planning sessions, serve as an active member of the extended science marketing team, and lead the OSO relationships to ensure synergy to achieve goals  

Qualifications

 

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience
  • Three (3) years of experience
  • Demonstrated success running organic social campaigns, influencer programs
  • Strong collaboration skills working across internal teams and external vendors

Preferred Experience

  • Five (5)+ years of professional experience in social media management, digital marketing, or content strategy
  • Background or demonstrated interest in science, health, or content production preferred
  • Experience with Sprout Social, Canva, and Adobe Premiere
