The American Heart Association has an exciting opportunity for a Writer, Website Content and Optimization to join our Content and Channel Strategy Team. This is a full-time, 12-month temporary contract position with the flexibility to work remotely. 

 

This role blends website content development, audience-centered writing, UX content formatting, and content optimization. The Writer, Website Content and Optimization helps shape how audiences experience digital content by creating, updating, and refining website content that is clear, useful, discoverable, and aligned with audience needs.

 

You'll work across a variety of teams and subject areas, developing new website content and improving existing content to support organizational priorities, programs, products, campaigns, and health information. A significant focus of this role is helping evolve and maintain the organization's digital experience by supporting website content migration efforts, optimizing existing content, and ensuring content follows established discoverability, voice, tone, and audience experience standards.

 

This role is perfect for someone who enjoys translating complex information into intuitive digital experiences, understands how audiences find and consume content online, and knows how to create content that helps people quickly find, understand, and act on the information they need.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, edit, and optimize website content supporting campaigns, health information, programs, products, events, and organizational initiatives.
  • Create new website content and improve existing content to align with audience needs, organizational priorities, and digital experience goals.
  • Apply UX writing and content design principles to improve clarity, usability, navigation, and user experience across digital experiences.
  • Write content that supports discoverability through both traditional search engines and emerging AI-powered search and discovery experiences.
  • Develop content that reflects audience intent, search behavior, and various stages of the audience journey.
  • Support the transition of content from the current website to future digital experiences by editing, revising, and developing content as needed.
  • Serve as the primary content liaison between content teams and web teams, helping ensure content requirements and digital experience needs remain aligned throughout planning and implementation.
  • Collaborate with web, marketing, content, and stakeholder teams to ensure content aligns with organizational voice, tone, accessibility, and audience standards.
  • Review and refine content to improve readability, scannability, usefulness, and overall audience experience.
  • Apply established best practices for website content structure, content design, information architecture, and digital user experience.
  • Self-edit and provide final proofing to ensure accuracy, quality, consistency, and attention to detail.
  • Maintain awareness of evolving digital content, UX writing, content design, search, and AI discoverability trends to inform content development.
  • Other projects as assigned.

Qualifications

Experience & Skills:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent. Typically requires less than two (2) years of related work experience. 
  • Proven experience developing and optimizing website content for multiple audiences and business objectives.
  • Strong understanding of UX writing, content formatting, and audience-centered digital communication.
  • Experience creating content that supports discoverability through traditional search and emerging AI-powered search experiences.
  • Understanding of audience journeys, search intent, and how users find and consume information online.
  • Ability to translate complex information into clear, concise, user-friendly digital experiences.
  • Experience editing and optimizing existing content to improve usability, readability, and effectiveness.
  • Strong knowledge of website content best practices, including content structure, scannability, information architecture, and accessibility considerations.
  • Experience collaborating with web teams, marketers, strategists, and subject matter experts.
  • Strong editing, proofreading, and quality-control skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple content projects and deadlines simultaneously.
  • Experience with content management systems; Sitecore experience preferred.

Compensation & Benefits

The expected pay range for this position is $70,000 - $80,000. Pay is commensurate with experience; geographic differentials to the pay range may apply. The American Heart Association reserves the right to pay more or less than the posted range.
