We have an opportunity for a Mission Advancement Advisor to join our Mission Advancement team!


This position will work in a hybrid setting (in office 2 to 3 days a week) in the New York Metropolitan Region.

This Individual is a critical member of the fundraising and strategy team, responsible for securing donations of $100,000 or more while moving donors to their highest level of engagement with the mission. Focused on individuals and foundations in the New York Metropolitan Region, the Advisor cultivates relationships and solicits support from current and past Association donors; and identifies and engages new prospective donors toward their support of our mission.  This individual is in a highly collaborative position, providing leadership for major and principal gift fundraising within the assigned area(s); serves as a connection point for charitable estate planning and provides subject matter expertise on specific needs and funding opportunities for the mission of American Heart Association.


  • Complete minimum of 120 face-to-face donor and prospective donor visits each fiscal year to develop and own an individual portfolio of approximately 40 individual donors across the assigned region with the capacity to give six- and seven-figure gifts 
  • Make at least 15 qualified asks for six and/or seven figure gifts annually for restricted and unrestricted purposes
  • Build and execute individual strategies for donors and prospects in portfolio to ensure growth of donor relationships.  Work with Mission Advancement operations team to secure appropriate project information, and build offers, proposals and asks that will be used to secure gifts; and with the Office of Funded Programs for proposal budget development
  • Responsible for meeting personal fundraising goal through a variety of giving mechanisms such as cash, gifts of stock, family foundation support, cryptocurrency, real estate, or other ways to give, as well as deferred giving vehicles mechanisms, with the support of the charitable estate planning team
  • Collaborate with Field Directors on strategies and opportunities to identify, cultivate and solicit major gift prospects to support field events and initiatives.  Serve as a leader in redefining donor and volunteer relationships across field campaigns. Leverage customized strategic events in select markets to cultivate donor relationships. Attend and support region and market activities and social events, mission-centered health events, and other hallmark events that drive the Association’s overall unrestricted revenue campaign
  • Responsible to ensure timely documentation of plans, opportunities and interaction results, and to ensure donor information for assigned portfolio is current, accurate, and complete, in our CRM database


  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent work experience
  • Five (5) years of successful track record in fundraising or sales with proven success on major gifts or large accounts at the six and seven-figure level
  • Three (3) years of experience in identifying and developing major giving and/or engagement opportunities that align with organizational mission, goals and strategies at national and local levels.
  • Three (3) years of experience with all areas of cultivation, solicitation and closing sales or fundraising
  • Validated collaborative skills with all levels of staff, prospects, volunteers and donors
  • Validated verbal and written communication skills 

Preferred experience:  

  • Knowledge of or experience working in one or more of the following fields: public health, healthcare, medicine, community health, scientific research
  • Knowledge of the philanthropic landscape


Compensation & Benefits

Salary minimum to the midpoint of the range is $70,300.00 to $90,000.00. Pay is commensurate with experience; geographic differentials to the pay range may apply.


The American Heart Association reserves the right to pay more or less than the posted range. 


This position is incentive eligible based upon achieving certain targets.
