The American Heart Association has an opportunity for a Development Director in our St. Petersburg, FL office. The director will coordinate, plan, and implement activities and resources necessary to achieve fundraising goals and campaign objectives for the Tampa Bay market, with a focus on the Tampa Bay Heart Ball campaign.


We offer a base salary with the potential to earn an incentive up to 25% of your base pay.  The potential incentive is based on achieving certain revenue targets.

Some of your responsibilities will include (but not limited to):


  • Achieving assigned revenue goals by developing and maintaining relationships with corporate and community partners.
  • Driving new business development by soliciting and maintaining high-level corporate and patron sponsors by developing year-round business and cultivation plans.
  • Recruiting, orientating, and managing C-suite volunteer leadership based on nationally established methodologies.
  • Maintaining an ongoing pipeline of potential sponsors, donors, and volunteer leadership.
  • Serving as our market lead for the American Heart Association’s national giving societies, including peer management and strategy execution for a significant revenue stream.
  • Executing peer to peer fundraising strategies in alignment with AHA’s best practices.
  • Instrumental in building volunteer leadership committees.
  • Planning, developing, implementing, and evaluating assigned fundraising initiatives according to standard methodologies and campaign timeline.
  • Confirming detailed, timely and accurate data entry of relevant information.
  • Collaborating with other staff and volunteers as needed to promote and support local initiatives, optimize event market strategy, and drive community impact.


In this role, you will report to the Sr. Development Director and will work alongside other directors to meet the overall revenue goal for the Tampa Bay market (over $7m annually). Daily travel within the market is required.

  • 2-5 years of relevant experience preferred.
  • Knowledge and skills in fundraising principles, practices and techniques, notably peer-to-peer fundraising.
  • Ability and experience recruiting, training, and cultivating top-level donors and volunteers.
  • Excellent listening skills, including verbal and non-verbal communication, active listening, negotiating, problem-solving and decision-making.
  • Highly effective organizational skills, time management, responsibility, leadership, and motivation.
  • Ability to work outside of standard hours which may involve some evening and/or weekends.
  • Ability and willingness to travel extensively throughout assigned geographical territory.
