We have an excellent opportunity for a Senior Development Director, Heart Challenge in our Chicago office.  The Sr. Director will be part of a 6-person team that oversees our Chicago Heart Challenge campaign, with a focus on our Heart Walk event.

 

The Sr. Director will serve in a player/coach role and will provide direct coaching and supervision to one fundraising staff member within the 6-person team.  This position will have direct responsibility in generating revenue by soliciting corporations for sponsorships/partnerships and individual donations.  Will also take the lead for the team on implementing our CycleNation event.  This is a full-time position.

To help you be successful you will have access to our award-winning learning platform the Heart U as well as various other training and support mechanisms locally and through our National Center.

Due to the current pandemic, daily travel is minimal and voluntary to ensure the health and safety of staff. There is no overnight travel currently. In the future, this position may resume to extensive daily travel and minimal overnight travel. All AHA offices are closed and staff are currently working from home.  Offices will be reopening on a part-time basis in September 2021 and a full-time basis in January 2022; this position will resume to being based in the local office.

 

 

Responsibilities

 

  • Prospect and secure local corporate sponsorships and individual donations.

  • Heavily engage in management of complex Circle of Excellence/A-Level companies.

  • Manage programs and initiatives related to Heart Challenge campaign including CycleNation and Executives with Heart.

  • Guide and direct assigned staff to reach goals.

  • Handle the annual team cycle for the digital experiences/events including securing corporate participation, goal setting, recruitment of team captains, and motivating team members.

  • Recruit and manage executive volunteer leadership, volunteer committees, and day of the event volunteers.

  • Develop profiles on the top businesses within the market area with a documented plan to secure their involvement.

  • Execute digital experience/event logistics based on national best practices.

 

Qualifications

 

  • 3+ years of experience in fundraising or outside sales or in a non-profit organization in a similar capacity.

  • 1+ years of experience in a management capacity. This experience may occur within the 3-year related experience requirement.  Experience gained through direct internal work on AHA projects/priorities may substitute for this requirement and will be considered on a case-by-case basis.  

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred.

  • Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills, including large and small group presentations, group facilitation, and training. Skill in written communications to include clear and concise narrative reports, evaluations, and similar narrative pieces.

  • Ability to read, comprehend and analyze number goals, as well as fundraising reports. Skill in use of spreadsheet/database analysis.

  • Ability to do daily travel up to 75% and overnight travel up to 25%.

  • Must have at least basic knowledge and skill with Microsoft Office.

  • Ability to lift and/or move up to 20 pounds.
