The American Heart Association (AHA) has an excellent opportunity for a Community Impact Project Coordinator within our Western States Region located in Los Angeles, California.

 

The Community Impact Project Coordinator will be responsible for coordinating and executing the AHA’s special projects associated with nutrition security and nutrition education to help us achieve our health impact goals throughout Los Angeles County.

 

This is a grant-supported, part-time position with an anticipated duration through June 2022 offering a variable schedule of up to 20 hours per week with possible weekends. 


Due to the current pandemic, all AHA offices are closed and staff are currently working from home. Daily travel is minimal and voluntary to ensure the health and safety of staff. There is no overnight travel currently. In the future, this position may resume daily and/or overnight travel. Offices will be reopening in October 2021; this position will resume to being based in the local office.   

Responsibilities

Essential Job Duties:

  • Manage the logistics, engage volunteers, and facilitate the execution of school farmers markets and/or food distribution sites.
  • Provide consultation to funded Teaching Gardens schools.
  • Facilitates the identification, recruitment, and selection of appropriate volunteers, including community-based organizing, to support this work.
  • Execute project implementation to fulfill funding commitments for elementary, middle, and high school students and staff, such as volunteer Teaching Gardens, Farmers Markets and/or other programs as needed.

Qualifications

Minimum one (1) year experience with:

  • Progressive experience in public health, community health or equivalent.
  • Proven ability to recruit, mobilize and manage volunteers.
  • Demonstrated ability to drive toward and achieve results.
  • Proven ability to apply marketing insights to develop appropriate strategies.
  • Effectively manage relationships with the ability to gain trust and demonstrate influence without authority.
  • Knowledge community networks
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.

Here are some of the preferred skills we are looking for:

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish; listening, speaking, reading, and writing
  • Knowledge of corporate and community networks.
  • Knowledge of AHA’s mission and programs.
