The American Heart Association has an opportunity for a Development Director, Heart Ball in Austin, TX.


In this role, you will be responsible for identifying and securing development prospects for the Austin Heart Ball. This campaign brings together corporate partners, medical leaders, community leaders, and volunteers of the community to bring awareness and spread the mission of the American Heart Association. You will also plan, implement, and evaluate the event long with the event specialist. This role will create a vision and strategy translating it into specific action plans for each account. You will actively work to grow existing accounts, secure new ones, and expand the volunteer base of the organization.

In this role, you will be responsible to:

  • Achieving revenue goals by developing and maintaining relationships through our mission-based fundraising initiatives.
  • Driving new business development by soliciting and maintaining high-level corporate and individual donors’ support for our community impact needs and overall campaign revenue goals.
  • Maintaining and growing pipelines of potential sponsors, individual donors, and overall volunteer leadership.
  • Conduct sales calls to generate new business and upgrade existing company partnerships by engaging them in the mission of the AHA. 
  • Adopting the AHA’s nationally established methodologies for recruiting, orienting, and leading both C-suite volunteer leadership and individual donors.
  • Track, report and manage results using a variety of database and campaign management systems with a consistent track record in meeting sales/fundraising goals. 
  • Some knowledge of event planning preferred.
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

  • 3 years of experience in fundraising, outside sales or in a non-profit organization in a similar capacity.
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred but not required.
  • A proven track record in meeting sales/fundraising goals.
  • The ability to secure corporate donations through participating in and leading top-level sponsorship asks.
  • Collaborative approach to working with other internal partners, such as with Heart Walk, Go Red for Women, Health Strategies and Youth Market teams to help drive specific AHA cause initiatives in defined markets.
  • Willing and able to travel within the Greater Austin market to engage C-suite corporate executives to accomplish goals.
  • Highly effective organizational skills, time management, responsibility, leadership, motivational approach to both internal and external audiences.
  • Results driven with the ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
  • Direct knowledge of special event fundraising tactics is essential.
  • Ability to work non-standard hours such as weekends and evenings, early starts and/or late endings to the workday, as needed.
  • Ability to lift at least 20 lbs. from the ground to waist level with or without reasonable accommodation. 
  • Intermediate to advance knowledge in Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Word.

We offer a base salary with the potential to earn an incentive up to 25% of your base pay.  The potential incentive is based on achieving certain revenue targets.
