The American Heart Association (AHA) has an excellent opportunity for a Development Director with the Bay Area division of the Western States Region. This is a home/field based position and the ability to work effectively from home is required.  Involves regular work performed from remote locations for business meetings and events which are outdoors and regular meetings in the Oakland, California office.   

 

Under general supervision, the Development Director is responsible for advancing the American Heart Association’s mission through the planning, management and implementation of our Bay Area Heart Ball campaign in collaboration with internal and external partners to achieve overall team and division/regional goals. This includes ensuring that revenue goals are achieved for the campaign and active collaboration in driving towards division and Western States revenue and health impact goals through effectively engaging volunteers, other partners and staff across diverse opportunities.

 

This is a fast-paced sales type of environment with the main responsibility of driving revenue in support of our mission.  Competitive salary with incentive potential is offered.

Responsibilities

  • Manages sponsorship, new business development and leadership recruitment for the Bay Area Heart Ball campaign through driving to AHA Best Practices and is directly accountable for achieving revenue goals aligned with funding research, public health, professional education and training and community services.
  • Plans, manages, implements, and evaluates events and activities while managing multiple campaign components with new and existing companies participating in the campaign(s).
  • Leads and actively participates in the identification, cultivation, solicitation and management of corporate sponsorship and corporate and community involvement.  This includes completing research on businesses within assigned market, while developing profiles and strategic plans to secure involvement.  Develop a 3-year plan for campaign(s) and corporate and individual giving that allows for maximum revenue based on market potential. 
  • Develops and implements year-round pipelines and cultivation plans for corporate accounts and individual donors, ensuring sufficient depth for revenue generation and excellent customer relations.
  • Drives the ongoing process of identifying, recruiting, and activating an influential, financially strong, and inclusive volunteer leadership base to support the campaign on a sustained basis.  Includes the recruitment and engagement of campaign chairs and leadership teams to champion the fundraising success of the campaign(s) through their personal and corporate giving, mobilizing their employees and influencing the involvement and giving of others.
  • Manages customer and campaign information utilizing AHA systems accurately, timely and completely in accordance with established guidelines.
  • Proactively ensures timely communication with internal and external partners and customers, supporting collaboration in account management and activities to achieve shared goals.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of two (2) years’ experience with
    • Demonstrated track record in fundraising, sales, or marketing
    • Demonstrated ability to recruit, train and manage volunteers with success in delegating and accomplishing goals through empowering volunteers.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
  • Effective interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to develop collaborative working relationships internally and externally
  • Ability to organize and plan a complex campaign in a highly dynamic environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.

  • Experience managing and cultivating high-level leaders at the C-Suite level.
  • Knowledge of corporate and community networks
  • Knowledge of AHA’s mission and programs
  • AHA experience
